“Empowering the Annadatta is the cornerstone of a developed India. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, an amount of Rs 372.01 crore will be directly transferred to the accounts of 18.60 lakh-plus farmer families in Assam under the 23rd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi,” the Chief Minister said.He described farmers as the backbone of the nation’s growth and reiterated that improving their welfare remains a key priority of both the Central and state governments.Launched in 2019, the PM-Kisan scheme is one of the Centre’s flagship welfare programmes aimed at providing assured income support to small and marginal farmers. Under the scheme, eligible farmer families receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000 each. The amount is directly credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts, reducing delays and ensuring greater transparency. The latest instalment is expected to benefit lakhs of farming households across Assam, helping them meet agricultural expenses and support day-to-day farming activities. The assistance is also expected to provide a financial cushion to rural families, particularly during the agricultural season when input costs and cultivation expenses are high.
Sarma credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for expanding welfare initiatives focused on improving farmers’ income and enhancing their quality of life. He said continued support through schemes such as PM-Kisan is helping strengthen the agricultural sector while contributing to the broader goal of rural development and economic growth. With more than 18.60 lakh beneficiaries in Assam alone, the latest PM-Kisan instalment is expected to provide significant support to the state’s farming community and reinforce efforts to improve rural prosperity through direct financial assistance.
