Nine years ago, a little girl was rescued from deep within a forest. The girl, who did not recognize humans, walked like an animal, and behaved like one, was rescued and later placed in a children’s home. But after leaving the forest and entering human society, the ‘Mowgli Girl’ — who faced various physical challenges — is no more. At the age of 18, the young woman died while undergoing treatment.
It may be noted that the girl was named Ehsaas after she was rescued from the forest. Over the past nine years of rehabilitation, Ehsaas gradually became one among humans. She learned many behaviors, such as wearing clothes, recognizing people, and building relationships with those around her.
Recently suffering from physical illness, Ehsaas was admitted to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow. She died in the hospital on June 15 due to septicemia caused by a lung-related illness.
Ehsaas was rescued in 2017 from the Katarniaghat forest area in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh. At that time, she moved around on all fours, avoided human contact, and expressed her feelings through gestures and various sounds. Because of this unusual behavior, she became known across the country as the ‘Mowgli Girl’.
After her rescue, she was transferred to a special children’s home in Lucknow. There, her journey of rehabilitation began through medical care, counseling, and special attention.
Her long struggle to return to the mainstream of society from a child found in the forest had drawn the attention of the entire country. Many have regarded Ehsaas’s life as a unique example of rehabilitation and humanitarian care.
