Anai wangsu a young athlete from Arunachal Pradesh, who won a gold medal in KITG despite battling illness

Proving that the impossible can be achieved with firm determination and indomitable courage, Arunachal Pradesh’s young Anai wangsu KTIG has brought pride to the state by winning a gold medal at khelo India Tribal Games .
In the 58kg category of the 2026 Women’s Championship, 21-year-old Anai secured the top spot. However, her journey to this gold was not easy. Just a few days before the competition, Anajee had fallen seriously ill. Despite her physical ailments, she remained steadfast in her goal.
Overcoming Adversity
Anai shared that she suddenly felt very weak and fell ill just before the tournament began. Due to the illness and local environmental factors, her body was not in peak condition. She admitted that at one point, she almost lost hope of even participating. However, her coach and family encouraged her not to give up.

This isn’t Anai’s first taste of success. She has previously won several medals at the national level.
In 2025 she won a silver medal at a national competition held in Rajasthan. She has consistently performed well in North East regional championships.
Her family mentioned that even as a child,Anai was incredibly disciplined and focused on her training.

Anai now aims to represent India in even larger international arenas and hopes to inspire other young girls from Arunachal Pradesh to take up sports. She credited her success to her coach’s guidance and her parents’ unwavering support.
