In a significant initiative to bring the timeless and emotionally rich literary works of renowned Assamese litterateur, filmmaker, and dramatist Dr. Bhabendra Nath Saikia closer to Bodo readers, the Bodo translation of his celebrated work Moromar Deuta, titled “Ansula Afa”, was formally released on Tuesday at the Department of Modern Indian Languages and Literary Studies, Gauhati University.
The book has been translated into Bodo by Udangshri Boro, a research scholar of the department. The translation is not merely a linguistic conversion but an emotional and cultural bridge between two languages and communities. Ansula Afa stands as a remarkable example of how literature can transcend linguistic boundaries and connect people through shared human emotions.
Padma Shri awardee Professor Anil Kumar Boro, who attended the event as the chief guest and unveiled the book, praised the initiative and remarked that Dr. Bhabendra Nath Saikia’s literature reflects the deep emotions and realities of social life. He added that through this translation, Bodo readers would now get an opportunity to experience the fragrance and depth of Saikia’s literary world in a new form.
Head of the Department of Modern Indian Languages and Literary Studies, Professor Anuradha Sharma, in her speech stated that translation is an art that revives the soul of literature in another language. She noted that the initiative has opened a new avenue of harmony and cultural bonding between Assamese and Bodo literature and congratulated researcher Udangshri Boro for her achievement.
Among others present at the event were Head of the Bodo Department Professor Swarna Prabha Chainary and senior professor Dilip Bora, who also congratulated Udangshri Boro and described the translation as a meaningful effort to strengthen cultural ties between the two linguistic communities.
The enthusiastic participation of professors, literary enthusiasts, researchers, and students added vibrancy and warmth to the book release ceremony.
