Assam Boxers Shine, But Coaches Snubbed: 6 State Players in National Camp, Zero Coaches Selected

Assam’s first Olympic medalist boxer Lovlina Borgohain (75 kg), along with a total of six boxers from our state, have received invitations to the National Boxing Camp starting today in Patiala. This elite camp for both men and women will continue until July 10.
Through this camp, which will cost approximately ₹2 crore, the Indian boxing team will be selected for the upcoming Commonwealth Games starting July 23 in Glasgow. The other players from Assam who secured a place in the camp are:Gitimoni Gogoi (70 kg category), Ankushita Boro (65 kg), Suzuma Boro (48 kg), Bimpy Pegu (51 kg),Jamuna Boro (57 kg). In the first list published on April 28, 11 coaches have been appointed for 33 female boxers, and 10 coaches for 31 male boxers. However, not a single coach from Assam was selected for the camp where six female boxers from the state found a place. This has sparked a reaction within the local boxing community.
