The Assam Government has continued its efforts to ensure a lasting solution to the problem of waterlogging in Guwahati, which causes inconvenience to citizens during the monsoon season.
As part of this initiative, the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Kaushik Rai, visited Maligaon and its adjoining areas under the Jalukbari constituency this morning to assess the overall condition of drains, water drainage systems, and other related issues.
During the inspection, the Minister emphasized the need to make the drainage system more effective and directed officials of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Indian Railways, Public Works Department (PWD), and other concerned agencies to take necessary measures.
He stated that various departments are working in a coordinated manner to ensure that the residents of the city do not face unnecessary hardship during periods of heavy rainfall. Highlighting the importance of public cooperation, the Minister said that active participation and support from citizens are essential for the success of the government’s efforts.
During his inspection the minister was accompanied by Commissioner and Secretary of the Housing and Urban Affairs Department, Kavita Padmanabhan; Chief Executive Officer of GMDA, Ambatun MP; GMC Commissioner, Chinmoy Phukan; and other departmental officials.
