Elina Svitolina has clinched the women’s singles title at the Italian Open tennis tournament. After a fierce contest in the final, the Ukrainian player defeated America’s Coco Gauff in sets of 6–4, 6–7, 6–2.
After winning the first set against world number four seed Gauff, Svitolina lost the second set in a tiebreaker. However, putting on an excellent performance in the third and deciding set, she brought the final result in her favor. This marks Svitolina’s third title in the tournament held in Italy’s capital city. Through this victory, she has boosted her confidence ahead of the French Open, which is scheduled to begin on May 24.
