Following the delimitation process, 14 new drinking water supply schemes have been constructed across 14 religious and public institutions in Wards 1 and 2 of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation area, which were recently included in the Jalukbari Assembly Constituency from West Guwahati. Out of these, 8 schemes are in Ward 2 and 6 are in Ward 1. These projects were constructed by the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) within the stipulated time under the state government’s SOPD-G scheme, a special initiative by Jalukbari MLA and Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The institutions covered under these schemes include: Shri Shri Haridev Namghar, Khanamukh Regional Crematorium, Khanamukh Shri Shri Lakshmi Temple, Uday Community Centre Playground, Garigaon Navajyoti Club, Shri Shri Hari Temple, Shri Shri Ramakrishna Namghar, Shyamrai Gohain Ghar, Malaya Nagar (West) Public Namghar, Kali Temple (PW Chowk), Sundarbari Middle School, Assam Shishu Kalyan Sadan, Shri Shri Maha Shyama Kali Temple (Sanskrit College), and Pragjyotish Kala Kristi Bikash Kendra.
The 14 schemes were officially inaugurated today following traditional rituals by Hemanta Choudhury, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chief Minister. In his brief address, Hemanta Choudhury highlighted Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s consistent directives to officials and engineers to resolve fundamental issues in Wards 1 and 2, alongside other areas of the Jalukbari constituency. He urged the public to ensure that every inaugurated water supply scheme remains functional and well-maintained.
The event was attended by Ward 1 Councillor Hukum Chand Ali Bakshi, Ward 2 Councillor Mukul Kalita, BJP University Mandal Committee President Chinmoy Sarma, several GMDA officials and engineers, as well as the presidents, secretaries, and members of the respective water scheme committees and a large number of local residents.
