US Ambassador to India pays courtesy call on Himanta Biswa Sarma, eyes deeper ties with Assam

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor today paid a courtesy call on Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati after the latter assumed the post of Chief Minister for the second consecutive term.
Earlier in the day, Gor attended Sarma’s swearing-in ceremony on his invitation.
Sarma felicitated Gor with a tradition Assamese gamosa and thanked him for attending the swearing-in. Both of them held discussion on ways to further deepen the ties between Assam and the US.
“The United States and Assam have many commercial ties, and with the CM’s leadership we will identify many more win-win scenarios for both of our nations,” the US Ambassador said.
Sarma responded by saying that “India values its deep partnership with the United States and look forward to strengthening cooperation and opening opportunities under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
