Empty Cartridge Recovered at Assam CM Swearing-in Ceremony, Police Clarify No Security Threat

There was brief panic at the swearing-in ceremony venue in Khanapara after a bullet-like object was recovered from a bag during security checks on Tuesday.

The event was being held for the oath-taking of Himanta Biswa Sarma amid the presence of several VIP and VVIP guests.

Security personnel initially detained a young man and later took him to Basistha Police Station for questioning. After detailed interrogation and rapid investigation by Guwahati Police, the mystery surrounding the recovery was resolved.

Police later clarified that the recovered item was not a live bullet, but an empty cartridge case.

According to police, the cartridge had been kept inside a bag by Latika Barman, reportedly to make a talisman or keepsake.

Officials said the woman had accidentally left the bag inside a local vehicle while heading towards the main pandal of the ceremony.

The bag was later returned to her by driver Pulak Deka. During security screening, police found the empty cartridge inside the bag.

Police further said Latika Barman’s son-in-law works at a firing range and had given her the spent cartridge.

After verification, both individuals were allowed to return home.

Taburam Pegu briefed the media and explained the full sequence of events.
