Suvendu Adhikari, a senior leader of the BJP, has sent a warning to Akhilesh Yadav, the head of the Samajwadi Party (SP), saying that the “Saffron Wave” is now heading for Uttar Pradesh. This comes after the BJP’s historic win in West Bengal. Adhikari told happy supporters in Kolkata on May 5, 2026, that the time of “dynastic” politics in regions is coming to an end. He had just beaten Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur to win the election. ” That’s it for Mamata (Banerjee), Tejashwi (Yadav), and Rahul (Gandhi). Adhikari said, “Next is Akhilesh’s turn,” using the Bengal result as a model for the BJP to break up strongholds of the opposition in the Hindi heartland and beyond. The statement is the first shot in the upcoming political battles in Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP wants to build on its momentum from 2024.
Adhikari’s comments were especially harsh because Akhilesh Yadav had campaigned hard for the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and kept saying that Banerjee would win by a “landslide.” The BJP leader said that the people of Bengal have turned down the “outsider vs. insider” story and instead chosen Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “double-engine” growth model. The Samajwadi Party hasn’t officially responded yet, but the “Akhilesh Next” warning has already fired up BJP workers in Lucknow. They see the Bengal win as proof that their grassroots mobilization is working. Adhikari honors the workers who died during the violent campaign, but his words suggest that the BJP plans to use its new eastern foothold to challenge the SP’s power. This will make the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly race the next big stage in Indian politics.
