“The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has taken a strict decision regarding the participation of players in the Indian Premier League (IPL). According to the new rule, any Sri Lankan cricketer wishing to play in the IPL must first pass a physical fitness test. If a player fails the test, the board will not issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the tournament.
The decision comes after Sri Lanka’s disappointing performance in the recent T20 World Cup. The board aims to ensure that players prioritize national duties and maintain peak physical condition, as many players suffer injuries or lose form after playing in franchise leagues, which negatively impacts the national team.
This move is seen as a wake-up call for players, emphasizing that national representation and physical readiness are non-negotiable. Only those who meet the high fitness standards will be allowed to participate in overseas leagues. The initiative is part of a broader effort to overhaul the system following pressure from fans and former cricketers after the World Cup exit.”
