CBI ArrestsRailway Engineer in Assam in Bribery Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a senior section engineer of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) in Silchar in a bribery case.

An official statement said the investigation agency had registered the case against the said accused on Saturday.

It was alleged that a bill amounting to approximately Rs 20 lakh, pertaining to work already executed by the complainant-contractor, was pending for clearance by the accused officer of NFR, Silchar.

It was further alleged that when the complainant met the accused senior section engineer (SSE) on Friday and requested him to clear the said bill, the accused demanded one percent of the total pending bill amount as illegal gratification for processing and clearing the bill.

Subsequently, a team from CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant.

The accused has been arrested and will be produced before the competent court in Guwahati.

Searches at the residential premises of the accused as well as investigation of the case are underway.
