150+ Delegates Join SOIMUN 2026 At Assam Legislative Assembly To Discuss Global Issues

The inaugural ceremony of the Square One International Model United Nations (SOIMUN) 2026 was held in Assam with the aim of familiarising young people with public diplomacy, leadership and the policy-making process.

More than 150 young delegates from across the country participated in the two-day conference, hosted at the Assam Legislative Assembly. The event provided participants with a platform to develop skills in dialogue and consensus-building, critical thinking, global awareness and collaborative problem-solving.

Modelled on the functioning of the United Nations, SOIMUN 2026 featured discussions on a range of significant national and international issues, including educational reforms, the Public Examinations Act, and fundamental rights and freedoms. Delegates represented different countries and stakeholders, engaging in structured debates while exploring diplomatic approaches to complex policy challenges.

The conference also highlighted the importance of bringing Assam’s youth closer to democratic institutions and the policy-making process, encouraging them to take a more active role in shaping society.

Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Ranjit Kumar Dass attended the first day of the conference as the chief guest, while former Speaker and current Minister Biswajit Daimary served as the chief guest on the second day.

Shantanav Mazumdar, principal organiser of SOIMUN 2026, described the conference’s official recognition by the United Nations as a significant milestone for the initiative.

Congratulating the organising team on the recognition and successful completion of the 2026 edition, Biswajit Daimary expressed hope that such conferences would enhance young delegates’ knowledge, leadership abilities, democratic values and global outlook. He said such initiatives could help nurture responsible, capable and globally aware leaders for society and the nation.
