BJP’s former MP and ex-president of the Wrestling Federation of India, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, has finally got relief in the sexual harassment case filed by women wrestlers that sparked nationwide debate.
On Monday, the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi acquitted him in the case. In the same case, co-accused and former assistant secretary of the Wrestling Federation of India, Vinod Tomar, was also discharged of all charges.
It may be mentioned that the allegations came to light in January 2023, after which there was massive uproar across the country.
On July 2, 2026, after hearing final arguments from both sides, the court had reserved its judgment. The case ran for nearly 1,133 days and saw a total of 127 hearings.
It is worth noting that in May 2024, the court had ordered framing of charges against Brij Bhushan for criminal intimidation. However, at that time he was discharged in the case filed by one of the six women wrestlers.
In the same order, the court had also directed framing of charges against Vinod Tomar. But in the final trial, the court acquitted both the accused of all charges.
In the charge sheet filed by Delhi Police, Brij Bhushan was booked under sections related to outraging the modesty of women, sexual harassment, stalking, and criminal intimidation. However, during the trial, both the accused remained out on bail.
