Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed his Ministers to involve the local MLAs during their field visits.
The directive was issued after it was noticed that on certain occasions the local MLA was not invited during field visits by Ministers.
“It has been observed that during certain field visits undertaken by Ministers, the concerned Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing the constituencies are not always intimated or involved. As a matter of good practice, Ministers may ensure that the local MLAs are informed in advance of their visits to the respective constituencies,” the official order said.
“Further, in case of public programmes or functions attended by the Ministers, the concerned MLAs may also be invited to join and participate,” it stated.
In respect of Departmental meetings or official reviews where the presence of MLAs is not required, the Chief Minister said the concerned MLAs may still be courteously informed in advance. Sarma was of the view that this practice will strengthen coordination between the Government and elected representatives and will contribute to the smooth conduct of official engagements.
