Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has officially launched Orunodoi 3.0, expanding the state’s flagship welfare scheme to benefit nearly 37 lakh women. The initiative aims to strengthen financial security by providing direct financial assistance to eligible women, helping them manage household expenses with greater confidence and dignity. The government resumed payments under the scheme following the Assembly elections and the approval of the state budget.
To improve service delivery, the Chief Minister announced that every Assembly constituency will have a dedicated Orunodoi Sarathi to assist beneficiaries, resolve grievances, and ensure that eligible women receive their benefits without unnecessary delays. He also introduced Aadhaar verification to enhance transparency, prevent irregularities, and ensure that financial assistance reaches genuine beneficiaries through Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. While the verification process may temporarily delay payments for some recipients, the government said the move will strengthen the scheme’s credibility in the long run.
In another major announcement, the Chief Minister said beneficiaries will soon be allowed to withdraw a portion of their annual financial assistance in advance to meet urgent needs. The advance amount can later be repaid through monthly instalments of ₹200. The government also indicated that additional welfare initiatives will be introduced in future phases to further strengthen the Orunodoi scheme and support women across Assam.
