Nalbari Highway Project to Boost Emergency Aviation Preparedness

A five-kilometre stretch of National Highway-27 from Tihu to Madhapur in Assam’s Nalbari district will soon be developed as an Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) for aircraft operations during emergencies. The announcement was made by Nalbari District Commissioner Nibedan Das Patowary during a meeting of the District Development Committee held on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the District Commissioner reviewed the condition and development status of the national highway with officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Stressing the importance of maintaining the road corridor for the proposed emergency facility, he directed all concerned departments not to construct any infrastructure along the identified stretch.
The administration also discussed several other important development issues in the district. The Superintendent of Excise was instructed to closely monitor roadside dhabas and ensure that liquor is not sold illegally under any circumstances.
Apart from the highway project, the meeting reviewed the progress of bridge construction works, road development under the Assam Mala Scheme, procurement of paddy at Minimum Support Price (MSP), allocation of Kisan Credit Card loans, and implementation of the mid-day meal scheme in schools.
The proposed Emergency Landing Facility on NH-27 is expected to strengthen Assam’s emergency response infrastructure and enhance strategic connectivity in the region.
