World Hepatitis Day was observed across several districts of Assam on Tuesday with awareness rallies, meetings, and health campaigns aimed at promoting the prevention, early detection, and treatment of viral hepatitis. The programmes were organised in line with this year’s global theme, “Hepatitis: Let’s Break It Down.”
In Dibrugarh, the district-level observance began with an inaugural meeting at the Dibrugarh State Dispensary. The District Health Department also launched a week-long awareness and service campaign from July 28 to August 3 to educate people about the burden of viral hepatitis, encourage early diagnosis, and promote access to free treatment facilities.
In Golaghat, the District Health Society organised an awareness rally to sensitise the public about the prevention, early detection, and treatment of viral hepatitis types A, B, C, D, and E. The rally was flagged off from the office of the Joint Director of Health Services by District Nodal Officer of the National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme, Dr. Ranjit Hazarika.
Meanwhile, in Udalguri district, World Hepatitis Day was observed at the Udalguri Sub-Health Centre with an awareness meeting and rally organised by the District Health Department. Health officials highlighted the importance of timely diagnosis, preventive measures, and treatment to reduce the impact of hepatitis.
Through these coordinated initiatives, the Health Department reaffirmed its commitment to increasing public awareness, strengthening preventive healthcare, and ensuring better access to hepatitis-related services across Assam.
