Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Director General Gyanendra Pratap Singh reviewed the security situation in Manipur amid continuing tensions in the state, while members of the Kuki-Zo community held a coffin rally on Saturday for three persons killed in an attack in Kangpokpi district.
During his visit to Imphal, the CRPF chief met Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh to assess the prevailing security scenario and discuss measures aimed at restoring peace and stability.
According to the CRPF, discussions with the Governor focused on enhancing operational preparedness, strategic planning and implementing a comprehensive roadmap to tackle insurgency and strengthen security across the state.
The Governor was also briefed on the current law-and-order situation and the steps being taken to safeguard lives and property while addressing emerging security challenges.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh appreciated the role of the CRPF in maintaining peace and law and order in Manipur. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to strengthening security, maintaining public trust and promoting harmony among all communities.
The CRPF Director General also met personnel of the elite CoBRA force deployed in Manipur and commended their contribution in various operations. He encouraged the personnel to continue their efforts to combat insurgency in the region.
Meanwhile, members of the Kuki-Zo community organised a coffin rally from Kangpokpi town to the Martyrs’ Cemetery at Phaijang, around 15 kilometres away, where the bodies of the three deceased persons were laid to rest.
Kuki organisation Kuki Inpi Manipur alleged that the attack at Loibol Khullen village, which claimed the three lives, was carried out by members of the NSCN-IM and the Zeliangrong United Front (Kamson faction). However, the NSCN-IM has rejected the allegations.
The incident has once again highlighted the fragile security situation in Manipur, where efforts continue to restore normalcy and peace.
