B.V.N. Rao Challenger Trophy Selection Trials

Under the initiative of Assam Janajiban Mission-2004 and in collaboration with the Jami Foundation, the B.V.N. Rao Challenger Trophy—a district-level cricket competition for players under 16 years of age—will be held from April 18 to April 24 in Guwahati.
Based on district-level selection trials, several teams have been formed:
Formed with players from Nalbari, Barpeta, Baksa, Chirang, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, and Dhubri.
Formed with players from Udalguri, Darrang, Sonitpur, Biswanath, and Tamulpur. Formed with players from Tezpur, Nagaon, Morigaon, Hojai, and West karbi Anglong . Formed with players from Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Majuli, North Lakhimpur, and Biswanath Chariali. Formed with players from Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, and Jorhat.
Formed with players from Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, Mariani, and Nagaon. Formed with players from Cachar, Hailakandi, Karimganj, and Dima Hasao. Formed with players from Kamrup (Metropolitan), Kamrup (Rural), South Salmara, and Mankachar.
A total of 12 teams (divided into ‘Naba’ and ‘Shobhani’ categories) will participate in this competition. Every day, five matches will be played across different venues. Both categories will feature league-stage matches, and the final match between the top two teams will be held on the concluding day. The primary goal of this initiative by the Jami Foundation is to identify talented young cricketers from rural areas and provide them with a platform to showcase their skills.
Abhijit Dutta, a representative of the organizers, stated that participants in the B.V.N. Rao Challenger Trophy will be provided with free food and accommodation. He emphasized that the mission aims to support players who may lack resources but possess great potential. The Janajiban Mission’s coordinator, Abhijit Bhattacharya, expressed hope for the tournament’s success and the development of the state’s young athletes.
