Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan at his official residence in New Delhi to finalize the plans for the proposed permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati. This project is central to the state government’s vision of transforming Assam into a premier educational hub for eastern India.
During the productive interaction, Minister Pradhan described the upcoming permanent campus as a “futuristic” institution that will foster academic excellence, innovation, and leadership across the Northeast. The discussions also covered broader educational advancements, including the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and strengthening infrastructure under Samagra Shiksha.
Currently operating from a temporary campus at Bongora, IIM Guwahati is set to transition to a transit campus before moving to its permanent home at Marabhita near Palasbari in Kamrup district. Mentored by the prestigious IIM Ahmedabad, this institute will be the second IIM in the Northeast after IIM Shillong, significantly boosting management education and skill development in the region.
