Two suspected drug traffickers were arrested during a joint anti-narcotics operation carried out by police in Assam’s Nagaon district, officials said on Thursday.
The operation was conducted late on the night of June 17 in the Lalipathar area under Dhing following specific intelligence inputs. The raid was jointly carried out by Dhing Police and Ahomgaon Police with assistance from members of the Village Defence Party (VDP).
During the operation, police apprehended two individuals identified as Baharul Islam and Rajibul Islam. A soap case containing suspected narcotic substances was recovered from their possession. Police also seized a Bullet motorcycle bearing registration number AS 02 R 2666 during the raid.
According to police sources, Baharul Islam is a resident of Devaguri under Laharighat in Morigaon district, while Rajibul Islam belongs to Duwamari. Investigators suspect that the two had been involved in drug trafficking activities in different parts of Nagaon and Morigaon districts for a considerable period.
Officials said both accused are currently being questioned as part of the investigation. Police are attempting to gather information about the source of the suspected contraband, the extent of the alleged trafficking network and whether other individuals may be involved in the operation.
