Key Rail Expansion Projects Under Discussion: Lumding-Furkating and Kamakhya-Guwahati Lines

Northeast Frontier Railway (Construction) General Manager Ashish Bansal formally handed over a financial contribution of ₹13,63,205 to Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. This monetary assistance is specifically earmarked to support thousands of families severely affected by the devastating floods that inundated large parts of Assam during June and July 2026. Beyond presenting the relief check, General Manager Ashish Bansal utilized the high-level meeting as an opportunity to provide a comprehensive briefing to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding the status of major ongoing railway infrastructure developments, strategic expansions, and engineering surveys across the northeastern region. During the discussion, Bansal emphasized the vital necessity of securing strong, active cooperation from the Assam state government to overcome various operational bottlenecks and implementation-related challenges currently impeding project timelines. Specifically, the General Manager sought direct administrative assistance in resolving critical land clearance matters and expediting the removal of unauthorized encroachments along essential operational corridors. Among the key infrastructure initiatives highlighted for immediate state intervention were the Lumding-Furkating Double Line Project and the strategic Kamakhya-Guwahati Third Line Project, both of which are designed to significantly boost regional transport capacity, ease network congestion, and enhance overall train operation efficiency. Furthermore, Bansal requested the state government to fast-track pending land acquisition proceedings to ensure the timely commencement and smooth implementation of the proposed Kokrajhar-Gelephu New Railway Line Project, an ambitious venture aimed at strengthening cross-border connectivity and economic integration with Bhutan. By combining immediate humanitarian support through relief funding with proactive administrative coordination for critical infrastructure projects, NFR Construction aims to reinforce its strong corporate commitment to regional development, public welfare, and long-term socio-economic progress across Assam and the wider northeastern frontier.
