Assam Forest Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah has made an appeal to the people to go slow while driving along the National Highway through the Kaziranga National Park.
The appeal was made to avoid wildlife deaths due to accidents and allow free movement of animals in the wake of rising water levels due to heavy rainfall.
“With continuous rainfall leading to rising water levels, wild animals are expected to move across roads in and around Kaziranga National Park in search of safer ground. I urge every citizen travelling through the Kaziranga corridors to exercise utmost caution and strictly follow the prohibitory orders issued under Section 163 of the BNSS by the district administration. These include maintaining a maximum speed of 40 kmph, avoiding unnecessary stopping, honking and any activity that may disturb wildlife,” the Minister said.
He noted that every cautious driver can save a precious life. Let us all work together to protect Assam’s priceless wildlife during this critical monsoon season.
In the past, speeding vehicles on the highway have claimed the lives of several animals, particularly when the park is flooded and the animals cross the the road to reach the highlands.
