Security forces have arrested three alleged militants linked to proscribed outfits in Manipur’s Imphal West district, while an AK-56 rifle and ammunition were recovered during a separate operation in Jiribam district, police said on Monday.
According to police, K. Lanchenba Meitei, 19, was arrested from Thiyam Leishangkhong on Sunday. Greatson Lourembam, 25, was apprehended from Awang Leikinthabi Shantipur on the same day.
Police identified both men as alleged members of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
In another operation in Imphal West, N. Shanta Meitei was arrested from Loushangkhong on Sunday. Police alleged that he was functioning as a self-styled “private” of the United National Liberation Front (Koireng).
The arrests were made as part of ongoing security operations targeting members and activities linked to proscribed organisations in the state. Police and security agencies have continued operations in vulnerable areas to identify suspected militants and prevent unlawful activities.
In a separate operation in Jiribam district, security forces recovered an AK-56 rifle and four live rounds from Khozoul on Saturday.
The recovered weapon and ammunition have been taken into custody for further examination as part of the investigation.
The latest arrests and weapons recovery come amid continued security operations across Manipur, where authorities have been maintaining surveillance and conducting searches in sensitive areas.
Officials said further investigation is underway to establish the activities of the arrested individuals and determine whether they were involved in other incidents or networks associated with the proscribed outfits.
Police are also examining the circumstances surrounding the recovery of the rifle and ammunition in Jiribam.
Further details are expected as the investigations progress.
