Mizoram Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar called on Assam Tourism Minister Ajanta Neog at her residence in Guwahati on Saturday to discuss bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector.
During the meeting, Hmar highlighted that tourist arrivals in Mizoram have increased significantly since the introduction of rail connectivity in September last year.
He noted that the majority of these tourists travel from Assam, emphasising the need for a stronger, formal partnership between the two states to boost regional tourism.
Assam Tourism Minister Neog welcomed the proposal, stating that mutual cooperation in tourism would benefit both states.
Both ministers agreed on establishing structured coordination between their respective departments.
They also discussed the importance of collective efforts among all North Eastern states to position the region as a prominent tourism hub in India.
The Mizoram Tourism Minister briefed his counterpart on the upcoming tourism events and festivals scheduled in Mizoram this year and invited her to attend, an invitation which Neog accepted.
Following the bilateral meeting, Hmar attended the two-day “Imaginarium 2.0 – North East Events and Entertainment Leaders’ Summit,” which is being held at the Mayfair Spring Valley Resort in Guwahati from Saturday.
