Dal leader Gyanashree Bora on Sunday expressed concern over the continued detention of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka and other party leaders, alleging that supporters, lawyers and family members were being denied access to them.
Speaking outside the premises where the detained leaders are believed to be held, Bora said that even as the clock approached 5 pm, the detainees had not been released.
“It is almost 5 pm, and we are still standing outside the gate waiting for Ashutosh Ranka and other CJP leaders to be released. They remain detained, while we are not being allowed to meet them. Even advocates are being prevented from meeting them, and food is not being allowed inside,” she said.
Bora questioned the authorities over the continued detention and alleged restrictions, claiming that preventing access to legal counsel and basic necessities raised serious concerns regarding due process and fundamental rights.
“We will continue to remain here until they are released,” she said, warning that a major protest would be launched if the detainees were not provided food and not released by 5 pm.
According to Bora, Raijor Dal activists and supporters are prepared to remain at the site throughout the night in support of the detained leaders. She also stated that CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke is expected to arrive in Assam on Monday to join the movement if the situation remains unresolved.
The detention of Ranka and other CJP members ahead of a scheduled volunteer meeting in Guwahati has drawn criticism from several opposition parties and political leaders, who have demanded their immediate release.
