NDA 3.0: BJP Legislature Party to Finalize New Assam Cabinet on May 10

Following a decisive mandate in the 2026 Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is moving into the final stages of government formation in Assam. State BJP President Dilip Saikia confirmed on Thursday that the BJP Legislature Party and the broader NDA Legislature Party will convene on May 10 to formally elect their leader and finalize the structure of the new cabinet. The high-stakes meetings will be attended by national heavyweights, including BJP National President J.P. Nadda and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, serving as central observers.

The upcoming session is expected to be more than a formality. While Himanta Biswa Sarma led the alliance to a record-breaking victory—securing 102 of the 126 seats—Saikia hinted that the new cabinet might see the induction of fresh faces to drive the “Viksit Assam” agenda. The party leadership is currently weighing experience against regional representation to ensure a balanced Council of Ministers that can capitalize on the momentum of their third consecutive term.

The political activity will culminate in a massive swearing-in ceremony on May 12 at the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara. The event is expected to be a spectacle of political strength, with an anticipated turnout of over one lakh supporters. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to be the chief guest, arriving at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport around 10:15 AM before heading to the venue. The guest list also includes Union Home Minister Amit Shah, several Union ministers, and chief ministers from other NDA-ruled states.

Public enthusiasm in Guwahati is at an all-time high, with supporters already congregating in the city to witness the historic occasion. Preparations are being managed with military precision; Chief Secretary Ravi Kota and the state’s top police officials have conducted multiple site visits to Khanapara to oversee security, traffic management, and protocol arrangements.

As the caretaker government led by Dr. Sarma prepares to hand over the reins, the BJP has assigned senior ministers and party functionaries specific roles to maintain discipline during the mega-event. With the May 10 meeting set to name the next cabinet, all eyes are now on the party’s internal deliberations, which will define the trajectory of Assam’s governance for the next five years.
