Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi has demanded special assistance and a rehabilitation package for people affected by the flood situation in Upper Assam.
To draw the Central Government’s urgent attention to the massive damage caused by floods in Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat, the Deputy Leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party in Lok Sabha and President of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 30th July.
In the letter, Gogoi highlighted the extensive damage caused by the floods to public infrastructure, people’s lives and livelihoods, and urged the Central Government to announce a special assistance and rehabilitation package for Assam. The MP has also received an acknowledgment letter from the Prime Minister’s Office regarding his demand.
Gaurav Gogoi expressed hope that the Central Government will soon approve a special flood assistance and rehabilitation package for the swift recovery of the flood-affected areas and the rehabilitation of the affected people.
Meanwhile, according to the latest data, 97 people have died and 4 people are still missing in this year’s floods in the state. 11,84,944 people across 25 districts have been affected by the floods. Currently, 76,885 flood-affected people are taking shelter in relief camps. 4,011 houses have been completely destroyed due to the floods.
