Mother’s Day Spotlight: How a Kolkata Woman Beat Self-Doubt to Build Her Oriflame Success

What began as a hesitant decision by a homemaker in 2005 has today evolved into a two-generation success story in the direct-selling industry, highlighting the growing role of women-led entrepreneurship in India.

Haichai, who grew up watching her mother work tirelessly beside an old computer in Kolkata, says those early experiences quietly shaped her understanding of discipline, resilience and financial independence. As a child, she often helped her mother with paperwork, handwritten notes and small tasks linked to her Oriflame business.

According to the family, the turning point came after Haichai’s mother attended a seminar at Mahajati Sadan, where discussions around women’s confidence and financial independence encouraged her to begin her entrepreneurial journey with Oriflame.

Despite initial fears about public perception and self-doubt, she committed herself fully to the business, attending every training session and maintaining detailed notebooks filled with learnings and reminders. Her journey also witnessed setbacks, including a period when her performance reportedly dropped to 9 percent.

However, through consistency and gradual rebuilding, she continued growing within the organisation and has now achieved the position of Senior Gold Director at Oriflame after 23 years. This Mother’s Day, the family says her biggest achievement is inspiring her daughter to carry forward the same confidence and entrepreneurial spirit.
