Manipur Police have arrested an alleged active cadre of the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA), who is suspected of being involved in planting grenades at different locations in the Imphal area.
Police identified the arrested person as Thokchom Sanju Meitei alias Luwang (26), a resident of Langmeidong Mamang Leikai in Kakching district.
According to police, he was apprehended during an operation carried out on August 4 at Thangmeiband Khuyathong Polem Leikai in Imphal West district.
During the operation, security personnel recovered two hand grenades from his possession.
Police said the accused is suspected of involvement in planting grenades at multiple locations in and around Imphal. However, further investigation is underway to establish his exact role in the incidents and determine whether other individuals were involved.
Officials said efforts are also being made to trace possible links between the arrested cadre and other members of the banned outfit.
The Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) and its armed wing, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), are among the insurgent groups banned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Police said further legal action is being taken in accordance with the law, while the investigation into the case is continuing.
