Guwahati Tea Auction Centre Logs 27% Growth In Q1

The Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) witnessed a notable performance boost in the April–June 2025 quarter, selling 32.21 million kg of tea—up 27% from 25.37 million kg in the same period last year. CTC teas led sales, increasing from 16.17 to 20.46 million kg, though average prices dropped by Rs 14.68. Dust tea sales rose to 9.82 million kg, with prices improving to Rs 240.20. Orthodox teas saw the highest growth, doubling from 0.94 to 1.92 million kg, with average prices rising by Rs 16.14 to Rs 279.63, driven by stronger export demand.

Around 22% of CTC leaf and 30% of dust tea fetched over Rs 300/kg, while a significant share sold in the Rs 200–299 and Rs 100–199 ranges. GTAC remains a critical part of India’s tea trade, with strong buyer interest and healthy crop trends expected to boost future volumes.
