A mixed reaction has already been triggered among football fans worldwide surrounding “Dai Dai,” a theme song by the famous Latin pop singer Shakira for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. In the 2010 World Cup held in South Africa, Shakira’s track “Waka Waka” had created an absolute frenzy. According to many, no other song till date can match up to “Waka Waka” as a World Cup theme song.
After a gap of 16 years, Shakira is once again the center of discussion regarding the World Cup. The pop queen has collaborated with the famous artist ‘Burna Boy’ for the vocals. Shakira will also perform live during the halftime show of the World Cup final match on July 19.
A group of street children from Uganda called “The Ghetto Kids” will join Shakira in the dance sequence. Although “The Ghetto Kids” initially started as an NGO in Uganda’s capital Kampala, the organization is now highly popular in the performing arts space. The ages of these artists range from 8 to 12 years.
In Shakira’s new song “Dai,” which was released last Saturday, stars like Messi, Mbappé, and Haaland can be seen in the music video. Several legends of world football are also named in the lyrics of the song. These include—Maradona, Maldini, Romário, Ronaldo, Beckham, Kaká, and of course, Messi.
On social media, the majority have already positioned “Waka Waka” as the more popular one. However, according to one section, “Dai Dai” speaks to the new generation; hence, once the World Cup begins, this song will surpass everything in popularity. Shakira’s presence and mesmerizing dance moves are well enough to make the song a global hit.
