Assam Chief Secretary Dr Ravi Kota and DGP Harmeet Singh today jointly chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess preparedness for Ambubachi Mela 2026, including arrangements being made by all concerned departments and agencies for the smooth conduct of the event.
Ambubachi Mela will be held from June 22–26 at Kamakhya Temple. The meeting reviewed preparations in view of the large number of devotees expected during the Mela.
Kamakhya is an ancient shaktipeeth here and the Ambubachi Mela is one of the biggest congregations of eastern India. About six lakh devotees, mostly from Bengal, Bihar and Odisha, are expected to visit the Mela this year.
Dr Kota said key areas reviewed included:crowd management, law and order arrangements, CCTV coverage, security deployment, traffic regulation, parking arrangements and management of pedestrian movement.
The today’s meeting also assessed readiness of pilgrim camps at Kamakhya Railway Station, Pandu Port and other designated locations apart from drinking water supply, sanitation facilities and public convenience measures for devotees.
They also took stock of medical preparedness, emergency healthcare services, ambulance deployment and food safety arrangements, uninterrupted power supply, illumination of key routes and transportation support, including facilities for elderly and differently abled devotee.
“We have also reviewed fire safety, disaster preparedness and deployment of NDRF, SDRF and other emergency response teams, completion of ongoing infrastructure works, temporary facilities, signages and barricading,” the Chief Secretary said.
During the meeting, he emphasised the need for seamless inter-departmental coordination and directed all concerned departments and agencies to complete pending works in a time-bound manner to ensure safe, orderly and hassle-free arrangements for devotees during Ambubachi Mela.
