SBI General Insurance has stepped up its relief and recovery efforts for flood-affected communities in Assam, partnering with The Akshaya Patra Foundation and Ayang Trust to provide hot meals and essential relief materials.
Under the initiative, The Akshaya Patra Foundation is facilitating fresh, hygienic and nutritious hot meals for flood-affected families in Jorhat district. In parallel, Ayang Trust is supporting the distribution of essential relief kits to 1,000 households across Jorhat, Sivasagar and Charaideo. The allocation covers 300 households in Jorhat, 400 in Sivasagar and 300 in Charaideo, benefiting around 4,000 individuals. The kits, prepared in coordination with district administrations, contain bed sheets, blankets, plastic buckets with mugs, sanitary pads and essential utensils.
In Sivasagar, the relief programme comes at a time when flooding can disrupt agricultural activity, daily-wage employment, household incomes and local consumption. Assistance covering food, hygiene and basic household requirements could help vulnerable families manage immediate expenses and support the district’s gradual economic recovery.
SBI General Insurance MD and CEO Naveen Chandra Jha said the company aims to provide meaningful support to communities during natural disasters. Head-Marketing & CSR Rathin Lahiri emphasised timely assistance based on ground-level needs.
Established in 2009, SBI General reported gross direct premium of Rs 15,904 crore in FY2025-26, registering 14.5% year-on-year growth. The insurer has over 9,900 employees and 182 branches, and is also providing motor and property claims assistance to affected customers in Assam.
