The Bharatiya Janata Party’s nominated candidate for the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, retired IAS officer Devashish Sharma, will file his nomination papers at Nagaon Sadar on September 16.
Around 50,000 party workers from Nagaon and Morigaon districts will assemble at the Dawson Higher Secondary School playground in the town and proceed towards the office of the Returning Officer in a massive procession to accompany the candidate for the filing of his nomination papers.
Party sources said that State BJP president and MP Dilip Saikia, Assam government ministers Pijush Hazarika and Jayanta Malla Baruah, all NDA MLAs from the two districts, along with other senior leaders of the party, will participate in the grand procession.
Extensive organisational activities have already begun across both districts to make the programme a success.
In a statement issued to the media from the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan on Monday, BJP media panelist Priyanka Tamuli alleged that at a crucial juncture like this, while the BJP has entered the electoral preparations with full organisational strength, the internal differences and lobby-centric politics within the principal Opposition party, the Congress, have once again come out into the open.
Alongside BJP candidate Devashish Sharma’s preparations to file his nomination papers, extensive organisational activities have begun at the booth, mandal and morcha levels of the party. BJP workers have intensified their public outreach programmes and election campaign across every part of the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency.
Tamuli stated that the BJP’s Yuva Morcha, Mahila Morcha, Scheduled Caste Morcha, Scheduled Tribe Morcha, OBC Morcha, Minority Morcha and Tea Tribes Morcha are actively working within their respective organisational spheres.
“Every morcha of the party is utilising its mass base and organisational strength in the electoral battle and reaching out to the people,” she stated.
“In other words, the BJP’s electoral battle is not merely centred around its candidate; rather, it is a battle driven by the collective strength of the party, its organisation and its grassroots workers,” the party media panelist claimed.
