Google is finally addressing one of the most persistent complaints among Pixel Watch users: the inability to see notifications the moment they arrive. For years, the Pixel Watch required users to physically raise or twist their wrists to wake the screen and view an alert, often leading to missed messages or awkward movements. However, a recent update to the Pixel Watch app has revealed that Google is working on a new “Immediately” wake setting. This feature will allow the watch face to light up and display the notification the second it hits the device, mimicking the behavior of competitors like the Samsung Galaxy Watch and Apple Watch. While Google notes that this setting will likely reduce battery life compared to the standard “On wrist raise” recommendation, the trade-off is a highly requested convenience for those who want to glance at their alerts without extra effort.
In addition to the immediate wake feature, Google is reportedly refining its “Notify when left behind” technology, which would alert users on their phone if they accidentally leave their Pixel Watch behind, and vice versa. This dual-layered approach to notifications suggests that Google is focusing on “ecosystem glue”—the small, intuitive features that make wearable devices feel truly integrated with a smartphone. These updates come at a crucial time as the Pixel Watch 4 faces stiff competition in the 2026 wearable market. By giving users granular control over how and when they interact with their notifications, Google is finally smoothing out the “user experience gaps” that have occasionally made its premium smartwatch feel a step behind. Although the “Immediately” setting is currently in the testing phase, it is expected to roll out to all supported Pixel Watch models in an upcoming software drop, much to the relief of the dedicated “ViRash” and tech-savvy community alike
