The Assam government on Friday signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with six companies and IIT Madras to promote the use of Artificial Intelligence and technology in the state’s education sector.
As part of the initiative, AI-powered platforms will initially be introduced in selected schools. The technology will be used to support teachers with lesson planning, improve teaching practices and help students with their learning.
An AI platform developed by IIT Madras will be piloted in 50 schools across Assam. Another AI-based platform will focus on helping students learn languages and mathematics.
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said the initiative is aimed at enhancing students’ creativity, skills and overall capabilities while enabling teachers to make better use of technology in classrooms.
He said the government would also give priority to capacity building so that students can be trained effectively and teachers can develop the skills required to use AI platforms for lesson planning and classroom teaching.
Pegu further said technology would play an increasingly important role in the examination system. Several examinations are expected to be conducted online or through virtual platforms wherever feasible, while physical examinations will continue where required.
On the financial arrangements, the minister said the participating companies would cover most of the expenses. The state government, meanwhile, would provide the required professional and logistical support for implementing the initiative.
The move is part of Assam’s broader efforts to bring emerging technologies into the education system and expand access to digital learning tools for both students and teachers.
