103-Year-Old Woman Turns Lifelong Savings into Relief for Flood Victims

At 103, Kanaklata Das of Majroumari village in Chirajuli, Sonitpur, has set an inspiring example of compassion by extending financial assistance to families affected by the recent floods in Sivasagar. After learning about the hardships faced by residents of the Amguri Bagan area, Das visited the Sivasagar District Commissioner’s office on August 17 and met District Commissioner Mridul Yadav. She donated Rs 2,000 each to 77 flood-affected families from her lifelong savings. Her gesture, made despite her advanced age, deeply moved those present and was widely appreciated as an example of selfless humanitarian service. District Commissioner Mridul Yadav expressed his respect for Das’s compassion and sought her blessings, while she conveyed her goodwill and blessed him. The centenarian’s act of generosity highlights how kindness and concern for fellow citizens can transcend age, distance and personal circumstances. Her contribution has emerged as a powerful reminder that even a small act of personal sacrifice can bring hope and support to people facing difficult times.
