The return Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath was held from Baligaon to Roumari in Orang under the Mazbat Assembly constituency of Assam’s Udalguri district on Friday, marking the conclusion of the annual festival observed from July 16 to 24. The religious procession drew a large gathering of devotees and local residents.
The festival began on July 16 with the Rath Yatra from Roumari to the Jagannath Temple at Baligaon, where the Gundicha festival was organised under the leadership of Gopal Mandal with support from residents of No. 1 Saikia Chuburi, Nichilamari, and Baligaon. Throughout the festival, devotees participated in traditional rituals, including Balya Bhog, community feasts, and Aarti.
The return journey of Lord Jagannath from the Baligaon Jagannath Temple to Roumari was attended by Assam Transport Minister and Mazbat MLA Charan Boro, who joined devotees in the procession. His participation added significance to the concluding celebrations.
Later, the minister also attended another Rath Yatra programme at Lamabari in Mazbat. Several leaders and workers of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), including Benudhar Adhikari, Saurabh Saikia, Nabajyoti Kurmi, and Mitali Basumatary, were present during the event. The celebrations concluded with prayers and community participation, reflecting the region’s rich cultural and religious traditions.
