Assam Budget 2026–27 Unveils ₹2,100 Crore Aerotropolis Plan Around Guwahati Airport

The Assam Government has announced an ambitious plan to develop a world-class Aerotropolis around the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, with the aim of creating a modern satellite city that will serve as a major hub for investment, employment and economic growth.

Presenting the 2026-27 State Budget in the Assam Legislative Assembly on Friday, Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said the proposed Aerotropolis would be designed on the lines of successful urban growth centres such as Noida, Gurugram and New Town Kolkata. He said Assam needs similar planned urban centres to unlock its economic potential and generate greater opportunities for the state’s youth.

According to the minister, the upcoming bridge over the Brahmaputra near the airport will significantly improve connectivity and further accelerate the development of the proposed satellite city.

The project will be implemented by the Guwahati Satellite City Development Authority (GSCDA), a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) constituted by the Assam Government. Baruah said the Aerotropolis will remain a 100 per cent government-owned project, ensuring that the benefits of development are directly passed on to the people of Assam.

The proposed urban township will feature world-class infrastructure, industrial and commercial zones, residential areas and modern social amenities, making it a major destination for businesses, investors and employment generation.

To expedite implementation, the government has earmarked Rs 2,100 crore in the Budget for land acquisition for the Satellite City Project.

Describing the initiative as a transformative step in Assam’s development journey, the Finance Minister appealed for public support in realising the vision of building a modern economic and urban growth centre around Guwahati.
