Silchar MLA Demands Permanent Road and Drainage Solutions from Assam CM

Amid mounting public frustration over pothole-ridden roads and recurring waterlogging, Silchar MLA Rajdeep Roy has sought the urgent intervention of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Meeting with the Chief Minister, Roy submitted a comprehensive series of proposals focusing on immediate repairs, the widening of key stretches, and the construction of new roads within the Silchar Legislative Assembly Constituency.

The MLA strongly emphasized that infrastructure development, particularly projects under the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), must move away from temporary patchwork measures. Roy stated that Silchar residents deserve durable infrastructure upgrades rather than recurring quick-fixes that routinely fail during heavy monsoon rainfalls. Chief Minister Sarma reportedly took note of these pressing concerns and immediately directed relevant authorities to initiate the necessary repair works.

A critical highlight of the discussion was the intrinsic link between road maintenance and effective drainage systems. Roy argued that unless road layout and drainage networks are addressed in a highly coordinated manner, the town will continue to suffer from chronic waterlogging. Vowing to pursue the matter closely, the MLA assured that he would monitor the concerned departments to ensure all widening and drainage improvements are executed in a planned, time-bound, and permanent manner.
