India has intensified its global skilling ambitions with Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary flagging off a five-member Indian contingent for the 2026 Taipei Capital Cup WorldSkills Invitational Tournament in Taiwan. The tournament, scheduled from May 26 to 28 in Taipei, will see competitors from around 15 countries participate across technical and vocational skill categories. Organised as a preparatory platform ahead of WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, the competition is aimed at promoting technical excellence, workforce innovation and international collaboration.
The Indian team includes Arjun Sumathi Vijayabashkar in Mobile Applications Development, Mohamed Mafaz Poonaikannan Rabi Ahamed in Software Applications Development, Muskan in Painting and Decorating, Md Seraj in Automobile Technology and Suresh Kumar Ganesan Meena in Digital Construction. The participants are gold medal winners from the IndiaSkills National Competition 2025-26 along with wildcard entrants. Speaking at the send-off event attended by Skill Development Secretary Debashree Mukherjee and NSDC CEO Arunkumar Pillai, Chaudhary said global competitions help Indian youth gain exposure to international standards while building confidence and industry-ready capabilities.
In Guwahati, the Centre’s focus on skill development and emerging technologies could create fresh opportunities for technical institutes and startups in the Northeast. Experts believe sectors such as digital construction, software applications and Industry 4.0 could see rising interest among students and businesses in Assam as demand grows for globally skilled professionals.
