Tragic Road Mishap in Mizoram’s Lunglei District: Car Plunges Into Deep Gorge, Killing Three Including MAP Constable

A fatal road accident in Mizoram’s Lunglei district claimed the lives of three persons on Sunday after the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge.
Police said the incident took place when the victims were returning from Lunglei town. The car veered off the road under yet-unknown circumstances and plunged into a steep ravine, resulting in the death of all three occupants on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as K Lalhlimpuia, 25, Jerry Lalnunfela, 40, and PC Lalrintluangi, 24. All three were residents of Hauruang village. Officials confirmed that Jerry Lalnunfela was serving as a constable with the 2nd Battalion of the Mizoram Armed Police.
According to locals from Hauruang, Lalnunfela and Lalhlimpuia were close friends and neighbours. The two had left the village in the car earlier that day. When they did not return home by evening, family members grew anxious. The news of the accident reached the village later, confirming their worst fears.
Police described the crash site as extremely remote and difficult to access. The gorge is known for its steep and treacherous terrain. An official noted that the area’s inaccessibility is such that even a heavy excavator that had earlier rolled into the same gorge could never be retrieved.
Recovery operations were complicated by the terrain, but all three bodies were eventually brought out. Police have registered a case and further inquiry into the cause of the accident is underway.
The deaths have cast a pall of gloom over Hauruang village, with residents mourning the sudden loss of three young lives.
