The Assam Mountaineering Association (AMA) has created history across the globe by successfully summiting Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world. To celebrate this achievement, the association organized a grand felicitation ceremony today for the participants and trainees of various training programs and expeditions conducted over the last decade.
During the event, a documentary highlighting the decade-long journey and activities of the association was screened. The meeting was presided over by Satyen Nath, President of the Assam Mountaineering Association, and attended by distinguished guests, including retired bureaucrat and veteran swimmer Narayana Bordoloi, and former sports organizer and veteran bureaucrat Manibhushan Rai.
Indian Civil Service officer Alok Rajkhowa, and the Secretary of the Sports and Youth Welfare Department, Government of Assam, attended the event as guests of honor and delivered encouraging speeches. They praised the efforts of the association and emphasized the need for proper training and dedication.
Additionally, certificates were distributed to the trainees who successfully completed basic mountaineering training, annual training, and the training program held at Bhutan’s Royal Academy. Trainees who participated in the annual winter training camp were also awarded certificates of completion.
Furthermore, the association extended its heartfelt congratulations to the team members who achieved remarkable milestones during this expedition. It is noteworthy that under the leadership of Manas Barua, a three-member expedition team from the Assam Mountaineering Association—comprising Henry David Teron, Chiaku Gyaba, and Nanda Dulal Das—successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest on May 19, 2016. The association has been celebrating this historic day every year since.
