Vinesh Phogat Faces ITA Warning for Missing Dope Test, Risks Suspension with Two More Strikes

Vinesh Phogat is preparing to return to the wrestling mat after the Paris Olympics. She was scheduled to participate in the National Open Ranking Tournament. However, the star Indian wrestler has run into trouble before that. The International Testing Agency (ITA) has issued her a warning for failing to appear for a dope test. If she commits such an offense twice more, Vinesh faces the possibility of being suspended.
According to the ITA notification, doping control officials went to Bengaluru on December 18 last year to conduct a dope test on Vinesh. However, even after waiting for an hour, they were unable to meet the athlete.
According to regulations, every athlete is assigned a specific 60-minute window each day during which they must be available for testing.
If an athlete is not found during this time, the higher authorities are informed. Vinesh was notified about this “Whereabouts Failure” on January 5.
In her defense, Vinesh mentioned that she was attending the winter session of the Haryana Legislative Assembly at that time.
The ITA was not satisfied with Vinesh’s response. According to them, appearing for a dope test is the fundamental duty of every athlete.
