Pat Cummins was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for 20 crores and 50 lakhs in this year’s IPL. He took the team to the final of the IPL. That competition now seems more interesting to the Australian Test captain. Many cricketers prefer T20 leagues from different countries over international cricket. Many are opting out of country contracts to play in such leagues. Cummins feels that such a league should not be held at the same time as the international game.
Cummins won the World Test Championship for Australia. He is the first Australian captain to win both the Test Championship and the One-Day World Cup. Said Cummins, “T20 cricket is very attractive in some countries. More interesting than international cricket.” Cummins also said, “A time should be fixed for the test. As in Australia, tests run from November to January. At that time, we will play test cricket only. There is a fixed time for IPL as well.Then the cricketers can easily decide where to play.”
In agreement with Cummins, the CEO of West Indies Cricket, Jonny Grave, said, “I also want there to be a specific time of the year for Tests. Only tests will be played at that time. The test starts in Sydney or Wellington. Tests will start after that in Kolkata or Dhaka. After some time, the test starts at Lord’s or Newlands. Play in different countries. The test may run for 24 hours somewhere.”
If Australia plays in the final of the World Test Championship next year, it will be in June. The IPL will end before that. They also have to play Tests, ODIs, and T20Is against the West Indies. Now there is a fixed time for the IPL. India’s T20 league will be held in April and May. There are usually not many tests played during that time.
