SWITCH Mobility Ltd, a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland, has launched its state-of-the-art electric city buses, the SWITCH EiV12 for India and the SWITCH E1 for Europe, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable urban transport. Unveiled by ShriNitinGadkari, India’s Minister for Road Transport and Highways, the SWITCH EiV12 is India’s first low-floor city bus with chassis-mounted batteries, offering over 400 kWh of scalable battery capacity. This marks a major step in advancing electric mobility in India.
The SWITCH E1, designed for the European market, was also introduced virtually, showcasing cutting-edge engineering with in-wheel motors and a triple-door configuration. Both buses are built on SWITCH’s global EV architecture, emphasizing performance, safety, and accessibility.
The India electric city bus market is expected to grow rapidly, with a CAGR of 21% by 2030. The SWITCH EiV12, with features like wheelchair access, CCTV surveillance, and a spacious interior for up to 39 passengers, is already seeing strong demand with over 1,800 pre-orders. For Dibrugarh, this launch presents a unique opportunity to integrate electric buses into its expanding urban infrastructure.
