Excessive display of personal information and valuables on social media has invited grave danger. A sensational robbery took place at the residence of a popular social media influencer in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. Thieves looted gold and diamond jewelry worth approximately ₹1 crore from the home of 29-year-old Madhumitha and her businessman husband, Vinod Kumar, located in the VIP Garden area near Nagercoil.
According to reports, the family had gone to Tirunelveli last Thursday evening for clothes shopping. Returning home at midnight, they found the front door locked from the inside. Vinod Kumar then went to the back of the house and discovered that the sturdy rear door had been broken and the rooms ransacked. The thieves escaped with 118 tolas of gold jewelry, diamond ornaments, and ₹50,000 in cash, which were kept securely in a suitcase.
Police suspect that the thieves used sophisticated tree-cutting machines to break the rear door. The District Superintendent of Police visited the spot, and Police Inspector Jayalakshmi stated that five special teams have been formed to track down the criminals.
Meanwhile, the police have begun a thorough investigation into Madhumitha’s social media accounts. Madhumitha, who has over 41,000 followers on YouTube, frequently posted videos and reels showcasing her expensive jewelry and bundles of cash. Furthermore, she shared detailed information with her followers about her travels and shopping trips.
The police are now specifically investigating whether those social media posts helped the thieves identify the right time to strike while the family was away. This incident serves as a stark example of how the open display of personal life on social media can pose a threat to security in modern times.
